Rainy Saturday

Today I woke up with a sore throat and a slight cough. It wasn’t really bad so I decided a run in the rain was the perfect way to make my virus flex it’s muscles. Oh were did my sunshine go? I headed over to South Park to meet Team Odyssey.

There were four of us girls, perfect for some good conversation. I wasn’t really thinking of going far since I have other things that I need to do today and my long run is going to be tomorrow. We started out on the golf course loop which is some where around 6 miles and then did the highmark loop that gave me two more. A couple of the ladies were there earlier and had already go some running in. I was only planning six, but was having a good time chatting.

I ended up with some where around 8, our runkeeper applications where in disagreement.

I ran a bit with the fast girl. In between my nine minute miles is a 7:56. I got a little speed work done today on accident. Probably not a great idea in hindsight since I have a long run tomorrow, but I feel really good right now.

Running with a group

I was nervous today about running because I still wasn’t sure what my knee was going to do, but I headed to Mingo Creek County park this morning anyway. A great group of people from Team Odyssey was there. I was really excited to get to catch up with some of them and talk to people who don’t think I’m that crazy.

It was chilly and pretty windy out, but the sun was working it’s sweet magic and I was feeling pretty dang good. I warned every one that my knee was bugging me so I didn’t know how it was going to feel and they were understanding and asked me several times how my knee was doing.

My knee barely hurt at all on this run. After we warmed up we managed some pretty sweet splits and it is the first successful run I’ve had in about a week. I really enjoy running with other people. Not all the time of course. Some times running is the best deep thinking time, but other times camaraderie and differing paces make for a more challenging and satisfying work out .
One of Team Odyssesy’s faster ladies throws down some pretty speedy miles. Trying to keep up with her is great speed work.

The splits for this run were:
mile 1: 9:16
mile 2: 9:23
mile 3: 9:30
mile 4: 8:41
mile 5: 8:10
mile 6: 7:18

We were really chatting the first three miles and I was testing out my knee. The last three miles we progressively sped up. I was pretty proud of mile six although the my running partner wasn’t even breathing fast and I was pretty close to death hyperventilation.
Anyway it was a great run and my confidence is returning. Thanks ladies!
