Early Run

Thanks to my delightful and adorable two year old I was awake at 5 this morning. I thought since I was up any ways and I had some late morning plans I would just get started. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything in my Hulu+ queue so I watched Whitney for six miles.

If you haven’t seen this show I wish I was you.

Yesterday I only ran one mile, but I also did this work out.

I’m actually kind of sore in the legs. When I am training for races I don’t work my legs because I don’t want to tire them or make them sore for my training runs or races. Right now I only have a 5K on the books so I have been working on them much more than normal. It is good to spend some time on them since they are my trouble spot.

Off to get ready for work!

Speed work fun

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t love speed work. It hurts and makes me feel pukey and it’s hard. I neglect it way more than I should. Well inspired by all the bloggers out there and the fact that it was too cold to run outside with Will I decided to tackle mile repeats today.

It was pretty difficult and very obvious that I have been neglecting my fast twitch fibers. I did four miles at 7.8 on the treadmill which is 7:42 pace. Last year I would have done mile repeats faster, but considering I have been stingy with the speed work I thought it best to aim a little lower and thank heavens I did. I warmed up for 1 mile and jogged a quarter mile between repeats and then cooled down for a mile. I felt pukey a couple of times and my clothes were soaked when I was done.

Nothing exhausts me more than speed work. I feel like I could take a serious nap. Glad I did it.
